The End To ‘Always’ Evermore

The End To ‘Always’ Evermore by Juniperus

Summary: Snape. And redemption. And Poe. Drabble, 571 Words.

Why You Should Care: It’s Poe! And unrequited angsty Snape/Lily, which you just know Poe would secretly fangirl! And just a smidgen of parody! And Poe!

Why You Might Not Care: Didn’t you hear me say there was Poe? Why are you still reading this rec and not reading Snape/Lily Poe?

Sirius Black, Super Genius

Sirius Black, Super Genius by Mistful

Summary: “A few weeks later with Valentine’s Day drawing inexorably nearer, it began to dawn on Remus that this did not appear to be one of the daydreams Sirius toyed with and then forgot about, like the time he wanted Dumbledore and McGonagall to get married and have superchildren.”  Humour, 8,953 Words.

Why You Should Care: I have no solid understanding of the precise agreed-upon meaning of the term “crackfic”, but if I had to describe what the word means to me, I would probably use this fic as Exhibit A.  And B.  Also C through Z.  This is one of those fics that zig-zags so violently across the line between comedy and parody that it becomes its own beast.  It’s completely over the top while still somehow managing to have a solid foundation under all that crack; this one doesn’t just bring the clichés, it practically invents new ones.  I can’t decide if Mistful is a genius or completely Sirius-Black insane.  Probably both.

Why You Might Not Care: I suppose it all depends on what you define as crackfic and whether or not you like crackfic.  I put forth only that in reading this I managed on several occasions to force hot tea through my nose in an attempt not to choke on my own laughter.

Draco Malfoy, Ruler of the Universe

Draco Malfoy, Ruler of the Universe by Mistful

Summary: “Draco tilted his head. At this angle, you could almost see Dumbledore’s will to live draining away.”  Draco Malfoy gets what’s coming to him. Parody, 8,865 Words.

Why You Should Care: Manically funny and delightfully backward.  The characters are pushed far enough that it’s wonderful parody, but not too far that it’s absurd.  Sure to delight readers of Trio-Era fiction the most, and Draco lovers and haters in equal parts.  He’s the star in this one… and Mistful goes to great lengths to make fun of that, too.

Why You Might Not Care: I suppose there might be one or two people out there who don’t like parody, which is really quite a shame.  Just think about all that wonderful laughter those people are missing out on!

How The Dark Lord Stole Christmas

How The Dark Lord Stole Christmas by Alyx Bradford

Summary: Every kid down at Hogwarts liked Christmas a lot. But the Dark Lord who lived just north of Hogwarts did NOT! Parody, 1,257 Words.

Why You Should Care: Because I thought a cute and funny Classic Christmas Story parody would be just the thing. (The last bit is my favorite!)

Why You Might Not Care: Come on, it’s Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all the C&Cers, without whom this site would just be me, talking to myself.  Cheers!

The Mary Sue Alphabet

The Mary Sue Alphabet by Irony-Chan

Summary: “A’s for Amanda/Our hero’s twin sister/Got lost as a baby and/Gosh, how he missed her…” Oneshot, 1,429 Words.

Why You Should Care: It’s spot on, this fic, absolutely spot on in its portrayel of the phenomenon that is the Mary Sue. It’s inspired, truly, and hats off to this girl for faultness rhythm and rhyme (something I cannot achieve at all). It’s not a parody or a commentary, it’s something a little bit different. ‘V’ is my favourite.

Why You Might Not Care: If you’ve been known to write the occasional Sue and don’t know how to laugh at yourself, steer well clear.

Notes: Apologies that this is late – my Internet was playing around, and then I had to go. Pesky school.

25 Stories Penknife Never Wrote About the Marauders

25 Stories Penknife Never Wrote About the Marauders by Penknife

Summary: In which Penknife successfully avoids signing up to write 100 stories about the Marauders, and merely sums up instead. All prompts taken from the fanfic100 table. Humor, Drabble Collection, 1,284 Words.

Why You Should Care: Penknife not only pokes fun at the Marauder genre fiction in this one, but at her own fiction as well.  Remus/Sirius are most particularly highlighted in this little parody, and the concept of fanfic100 is also made canon fodder by in this good-natured comedy of cliches.

Why You Might Not Care: If you’re not a parody person, or dislike slash so much you can’t even read about it when it’s being mocked.  This is like a little commentary on a Remu/Sirius fic you can’t remember the name of but are sure you read.

Snogwarts: A Parody

Snogwarts: A Parody by Oy Angelina

Summary: Did you ever notice how cliched MWPP fanfiction could be? If not, Oy! Angie noticed enough for everyone! Read the cult-classic MWPP parody that was too good (and too wrong) for FF.net. Parody, 8,119 Words.

Why You Should Care: I love this. There’s not quite as much MWPP badfic as there is trio-era badfic, but it’s out there thriving in small communities, and this fic manages to poke fun at most of them, one by one, and sometimes all at once. Very funny, and oh so true. I especially love Peter’s cameos, and every time someone says “Hi guys, what’s up?” I break out into little fits of giggles.

Why You Might Not Care: If you don’t like parodies, I guess. I admit this won’t be quite as funny to people who don’t read a lot of MWPP fanfic, but I think just about anyone will get a few chuckles out of this.

A Sorting Song by Severus

A Sorting Song by Severus by TextualSphinx

Summary: Who but Severus would write a song that insults every house but his own in polysyllabic rhyming couplets? If Rowling were in her grave, she’d be spinning… Parody, 1,458 Words.

Why You Should Care: Oh. My. God. Why am I not surprised by the idea that Snape might possibly be a Gilbert and Sullivan fan? Oh dear. But the funny! Anything that uses the base “Modern Major General” has got to be worth a read, and the idea that Slytherin isn’t always short-handed in the sorting songs is delightful.

Why You Might Not Care: There is only parody and funny here, and if you grant the premiss (be sure to read the note at the beginning of this for optimal enjoyment) then you will not be disappointed. Sure to delight Pirates of Penzance fans. This is silly, and sometimes that alone is a good enough reason for being.

Naked Quidditch Match

Naked Quidditch Match by Anya

Summary: Exactly what the title implies. Comedy/Parody (obviously), 19,927 Words.

Why You Should Care: This is gloriously funny. One of those comedic gems that only gets funnier as you keep reading. The characters start out and almost remain entirely in character and yet somehow manage to be completely un-canon hilarious at the same time. This, my friends, is all about the situational comedy and what it can do to perfectly normal people. It’s written almost entirely in e-mail like correspondence between the characters, and all the regulars (and some of the not-so-regulars) make appearances. Oh goodness, this is funny.

Why You Might Not Care: There is absolutely no reason for you not to care, it’s that funny.

Awards: Round Three Multifaceted Awards – Humour; 2008 Hourglass Award, Admins’ Choice — Comedy.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Fifteen Minutes

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Fifteen Minutes by Cleolinda

Summary: From the “Movies in Fifteen Minutes” series, as seen on Livejournal. Be warned: the entire movie will be thoroughly spoiled.

Why You Should Care: Because it quite possibly the funniest piece of Harry Potter parody ever written, and I’m not even exaggerating. This is one of those pieces that is destined to go down in fandom history. You’ll laugh out loud, and you’ll start quoting from it to all your Harry Potter friends. And it really only does take around fifteen minutes to read.

Why You Might Not Care: If you hate laughing, I guess. I can’t really think of any good reasons. There probably aren’t any.
