Father and Son

Father and Son by IsabelA113

Summary: “He’s a man, a living breathing wizard. He has a family, a wife and a son. Who are you to take him away from them?” Ron learns what the difference between him and Malfoy really is. Onshot, 2,225 Words.

Why You Should Care: Arthur is one of the quiet heroes of the Harry Potter series, I think, and this fic is a good example why. This is a keenly focused study of Arthur and his beliefs about the war, his family’s position in it, and the Malfoys. This piece is specific and tailored for the purpose of showing what kind of man Arthur Weasley is: a very, very good one.

Why You Might Not Care: Very few reasons exist. The characterisations are accurate and the theme is resonant. You know the message already, but it’s good to have someone like Arthur remind us that it’s true, every once in a while, when we forget.

Summary: “She looked back to the mirror. Arthur’s long limbs entwined around her soft round body. It wasn’t the image that people would think of as ‘sexy’ but she thought they were beautiful.” Oneshot, 3,041 Words.

Why You Should Care: This is a delicious peek into the quiet, middle-aged love of Arthur and Molly Weasley, as well as an encouraging story about the softer, forever sort of love the right marriage can create.  It’s touching and sweet and reflective and well-aged, just like Arthur and Molly.

Why You Might Not Care: I suppose this is rated NC-17, and for anyone who squicks at the notion of Trio-Era Arthur/Molly sex, this probably won’t work for you.  The sex is in the same vein as the subtext of the story, and it is a touch romanticised, which usually makes me laugh and roll my eyes, but in this story with this couple from Molly’s point-of-view, it works pretty well.

Summary: “Arthur Weasley was rarely seen kissing his wife.” Not all romances are conducted in front of the camera. Drabble, 528 Words.

Why You Should Care: This is the perfect little Arthur/Molly fic. It’s sweet, and gives me hope that even years of marriage and oodles of children are not enough to dull passion with just the right person. The language is eloquent yet precise, and every once in a while I just go back and read this fic over again a couple of times because it makes me smile and sigh.

Why You Might Not Care: I can’t think of a convincing reason, because this is one of those short little ficlets that I’d like to handwrite out in a notebook and carry around with me to show people.

Summary: There are lots of things Arthur Weasley doesn’t say. Oneshot, 1,166 Words.

Why You Should Care: Arthur reflects, at the beginnings of the second war, on his family and, most specifically, on Percy. This fic is set sometime during OotP, and highlights Arthur’s growing unease. It’s a very brief but expertly crafted look at Arthur.

Why You Might Not Care: This is basically a character study; it’s short and doesn’t have a traditional “plot”. That, however, is part of what makes it good. Stop making excuses and go and read it.
